What mossyrune tracks while you practice

Each time you play, mossyrune keeps a record of the words you heard and the words you said out loud, how long you listened and spoke, and how fast you talk. The page below follows a sample learner of Spanish, so you can see what that record looks like after a few weeks.

Every word, heard, spoken and learned

Free

A word counts as heard when a character says it to you, and as spoken when you say it yourself, out loud. If you keep using it on different days, it moves to learned.

Words you stop using start to fade, the same way they slip from memory. The tracker rewards spacing, so saying a word again a few days later counts for much more than repeating it in the same sitting. Fading words get a list of their own, which tells you which ones to bring back into your next conversation.

Where you are

Free

Most words in the tracker carry a CEFR level, from A1 to C2. Your estimated level depends on how many words you've learned at each one, and the bars show how much of each level's vocabulary you've heard, spoken and learned so far.

The sample learner has reached A1 and is working toward A2. Treat the estimate as a reading of your speaking vocabulary rather than an exam result. Its real use is showing you where the gaps are.

Listening and speaking time

Free

Listening time counts the character speech you actually heard, including lines you replayed. Speaking time counts the replies you recorded and sent. Both are broken down by activity, so you can see where your practice went.

Speaking rate over time

Free

Your speaking rate is measured from the first word to the last in each reply you spoke and sent without editing, as long as the reply is long enough to time. The pause before you start talking isn't held against you. If you fix a transcription by hand, the reply still adds speaking time but leaves your rate alone, because its timing came from text that was wrong.

The chart follows your rate session by session. The headline number is the middle value of your last five sessions, which keeps one rushed or nervous day from swinging it.

Practice calendar

Free

Each day you practice appears on the calendar with the minutes you spent listening and speaking. A glance tells you whether you've kept a rhythm going or let the last week slip by.

A tutor's notes after every game

With a plan

With a Plus or Pro plan, mossyrune reads what you said after each 3D game where you said enough to work with, and writes notes the way a tutor would. You get the mistakes you made, each with your sentence and a correction, along with the things you got right.

Over several games the notes add up. They show the mistakes you keep making, what you've mastered and a short list of what to work on next. Every game's notes are kept, so you can go back and reread any of them.

Questions people ask

Is progress tracking free?
Yes. Words, level, listening and speaking time, speaking rate and the practice calendar are all free with an account. The tutor's notes after each 3D game come with a Plus or Pro plan.
How is my level estimated?
Most words in the tracker carry a CEFR level. mossyrune counts the words you've learned at each level and compares that with what the level calls for. It only measures speaking vocabulary, so use it as a guide rather than a certificate.
Does typing count?
Typed messages are saved, but they don't earn credit for any word. A word only moves toward learned when you say it out loud, since what the tracker wants to know is whether you can find the word while speaking.
Which languages are tracked?
Listening and speaking time, speaking rate and the calendar work in every language you can play the 3D games in. Word counts and the level estimate cover most of them. The language list on the games page is always the current one.
Who can see what I say?
Your progress page is private to your account, and other players can't see it. What you say in a game is sent to the AI model that writes the characters' lines and the tutor's notes, and play logs are kept so we can fix problems. The privacy policy has the details.
